x Lee Jae-myung, representative of South Korea's largest opposition party, the Democratic Party of Japan, said on the 25th that Japan has ultimately chosen to become an ``environmental war criminal'' after it began releasing contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant on the 24th. The Yun Seok-Yue government said that it would go down in history as a ``co-principal culprit who cooperated with Japan's crimes.''Speaking at a party meeting on the same day, Lee said, ``More than 10 years after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, Japan still committed an outrageous act of releasing radioactively contaminated water into the ocean. This is a serious crime and will not be tolerated."
Lee said, ``Even though Japan was aware that there were voices of opposition from all over the world, it forced the release of contaminated water for its own convenience. This not only caused it to lose the trust of the international community, but also ultimately will be recorded in history as an environmental war criminal."
Representative Lee also took aim at the Yun administration, saying, ``The Yun administration did nothing about Japan's release of contaminated water. They turned a blind eye, saying it was safe without any scientific basis.'' "Can we protect the safety of the Korean people and neighboring countries?" he asked.
Representative Lee said, ``The Yoon administration will go down in history as a co-principal culprit who cooperated with Japan's crimes. The Korean government should do everything in its power to stop Japan from releasing contaminated water in cooperation with the international community.'' ' he claimed.
In South Korea, since the plan to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant was announced, the government, opposition parties, and citizen groups have been campaigning against the plan. In particular, the Democratic Party of Japan has sent letters to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, criticized the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) report, and held candlelight vigils and demonstration marches.
However, rather than learning from its mistakes, Japan is about to cause an even bigger disaster. In April of this year, Japan announced plans to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean. The project involves approximately 1,338,000 tons of contaminated water, which contains large amounts of radioactive material. Among them, tritium (tritium) is particularly dangerous.
Tritium is a dangerous radioactive substance that enters the human body and ecosystem through the food chain, causing long-term health and environmental effects. Tritium can also combine with other elements to form compounds that are more difficult to detect and control. Tritium has a half-life of 12.3 years, meaning it can take hundreds of years to completely disappear.
